Yes! Back into some real content. Been putting my own words into action this year as my wife and I saw the birth of twin daughters at the beginning of the year. I’ve had to be more focused and intentional with my time than ever before. And so, the subject of living a creative life is even more dear to my heart than ever.

Recently I was at a birthday party. As those social occasions go, there were people of varying ages and backgrounds mingling and engaging in surfacey conversation. At one point in the evening, my wife and I were talking with someone who had found out we are expecting twins in January. Our confirmation of this was quickly followed by hearty congratulations and a mention as to how blessed we are. And I agree. We are incredibly blessed even though we are fully aware of the craziness that awaits. But it was the statement that followed his congratulatory words that alarmed me and reinforced a fundamental world view difference within me. He looked at me and said, “Well, I guess it’s time to hang up the music career now, huh?”

A while back, I was talking with a friend of mine and he mentioned how surprised he was that I didn’t engage more with the whole online/social media world. I mentioned that I felt it had a lot to do with my lack of free time and the notion that, in my mind, I don’t really have much to say that hasn’t been said before. He disagreed. He believed that it wasn’t so much what I had to say, as much as it was the general worldview expressed in my work and creative process that warranted sharing my thoughts and observations more publicly.

As time moved on, I had many encounters while recording other people or working with artists in varying capacities. In many of those sessions, people have said that I should share more about what I see, hear and find inspiring because it has inspired them in some way. This is not to say that I’m all that amazing, but it did make me realize that maybe there is something to be said for sharing worldviews with each other in hopes of learning something. The simplest gesture or honest conversation can improve our perspective or change our viewpoint to something more constructive. So I decided I should start sharing the things I see, learn and experience as a creative individual in a public forum for more than just my closest friends and colleagues.

As a friend recently posted on her blog, “By sharing our thoughts, our ideas and our experiences, we’re sharing a piece of ourselves with the world and contributing to a global conversation – creating movements and influencing change.”

I’m involved with various music and art projects and sometimes long periods of time can go by without any sign of new work in the public light. But like glaciers, hard work is being done while seeming static. This will also be a venture to better capture the thoughts, influences, creative processes and development happening behind the scenes of life in the studio and collaborating with friends.

I’ll try not to bore you and I’ll do what I can to make your time here as worthwhile as possible. And, of course, I’m extremely interested in what you are doing as well, so share my way if you discover anything interesting.
