Dilemas of The Creative Life

Recently I was at a birthday party. As those social occasions go, there were people of varying ages and backgrounds mingling and engaging in surfacey conversation. At one point in the evening, my wife and I were talking with someone who had found out we are expecting twins in January. Our confirmation of this was quickly followed by hearty congratulations and a mention as to how blessed we are. And I agree. We are incredibly blessed even though we are fully aware of the craziness that awaits. But it was the statement that followed his congratulatory words that alarmed me and reinforced a fundamental world view difference within me. He looked at me and said, “Well, I guess it’s time to hang up the music career now, huh?”
