30 DAY SONG CHALLENGE
Day 16 - A Song That You Used To Love But Now Hate
Growing up in the state of Iowa during the 1980s, I was found often on Sunday afternoons watching baseball when my dad would turn on the TV. Since Chicago was the nearest large city, the Chicago Cubs were my team of choice. I remember hearing the opening keyboard stabs of “Jump” by Van Halen When the team used it as their theme song and I would totally get stoked to watch the game. But my family moved back to Detroit in the 1990s. Coming of age when bands like Pearl Jam and Nirvana were shaping the cultural landscape caused me to listen more critically to a lot of things I had listened to in the past because I had a new framework from which I listened to music. From that awakening as an impressionable youth, my taste an interests have evolved considerably. And just as time has eroded Van Halen’s “Jump” from my taste buds, time has also eroded the place in my heart for the Cubs. My loyalty now lies with the Tigers.
